Visma strengthens Italy presence with Alavie acquisition

The deal enables Visma to broaden its offering in Italy by integrating Alavie’s compliance solutions, particularly tailored for accountants, notaries and law firms. While the value of the transaction has not been disclosed, the acquisition underlines Visma’s strategy to expand its accounting and tax software portfolio in the country.

Visma offers a wide range of software and digital solutions that support businesses with accounting, payroll, HR, and financial administration. The company has a strong presence in Europe and Latin America, positioning itself as one of the largest providers of digital business solutions globally.

Alavie has become one of Italy’s preferred regulatory software providers, serving thousands of accounting offices nationwide. Its flagship platform, Laegis AML, automates up to 95% of manual compliance processes, monitors client changes, and issues alerts to help professionals meet AML requirements without extensive in-house expertise. In addition, the company provides GDPR privacy tools and plans to launch Laegis Notary in 2025, extending its offering to notary offices.

Italy’s market context also makes the acquisition particularly significant. The country has more than 120,000 tax advisors and accountants, who serve more small and medium-sized businesses than any other EU member state. Many lack the resources to manage AML and KYC obligations internally, making Alavie’s digital compliance tools especially valuable.

The acquisition is viewed as a strategic step towards long-term growth, reinforcing Visma’s aim to deliver comprehensive solutions that drive automation, compliance and efficiency.

Visma chief commercial officer Steffen Torp said, “We’ve followed Alavie’s journey closely for a long time and have consistently been impressed by the team’s vision and execution within the regulatory software space. Their deep compliance expertise and commitment to quality make them an ideal partner as we strengthen our offer in Italy. We look forward to supporting Alavie’s continued innovation and helping more professionals navigate complex compliance requirements with confidence.”

Alavie founder Vito Ziccardi said, “Our partnership with Visma marks an exciting new chapter for Alavie. With Visma’s scale, resources, and deep expertise in SaaS, we will be able to continue to develop our platform and take it to the next level. Together, we’ll be able to fast-track development toward a fully integrated suite while delivering even greater value to our customers.”
